Practical questions
Trichomoniasis can be present without symptoms
Trichomoniasis is a treatable infection caused by a parasite, and many people have no symptoms. Feeling well does not establish that a person is uninfected. Equally, irritation or discharge does not identify trichomoniasis without assessment; several conditions can produce a similar complaint.

Do not make symptoms the screening rule
A person may have no symptoms, mild irritation, urinary discomfort or a change in discharge. Symptoms can also fluctuate, so their disappearance is not a clearance test. Tell the clinician about a diagnosed partner, relevant exposure and previous treatment even if you currently feel normal. Neither appearance nor the absence of symptoms reliably dates acquisition or proves that a partner has recently been unfaithful.

Check that the actual test addresses the question
Ask whether trichomonas was included in the testing requested and what specimen or method was used. The words full panel do not establish its contents. A blood test for other infections does not automatically answer this question. Discuss whether symptoms need examination as well as a specimen, and follow the laboratory’s collection instructions rather than choosing an unrelated home test or interpreting discharge colour as a result.

Keep partner and follow-up decisions supervised
If infection is confirmed, ask who arranges treatment, which partners need care and what advice applies to sexual contact. Do not share medicine or infer cure from symptoms improving. Pregnancy, ongoing pain or a recurrent positive result needs specific clinical discussion. Agree any follow-up test and its timing with the responsible team; this article does not prescribe a regimen or promise that one generic panel closes every infection question.

Common questions
Can someone have trichomoniasis without symptoms?
Yes. Symptom absence does not exclude this infection.
Does every STI panel include it?
No. Confirm the named organisms, method and specimen with the testing team.
Does a positive result establish when infection began?
Not reliably. Interpret the result clinically without using it as proof about relationship timing.
Sources and information limits

Content policy and review statusQuestions before arranging an appointment?
Enquire about the next steps and availability. An enquiry does not confirm a booking or diagnosis and is not an emergency service.
